What do netto and brutto mean
Gross is the amount before applicable taxes and fees. Netto is the amount after them. However, the word netto in the ad does not by itself clarify whether accommodation, travel or other agreed payments have already been taken into account. Ask what amount will be transferred to the account and what will be debited separately.
To convert brutto into netto, there is no one percentage for all cases. The result depends on the contract, insurance and tax situation. Official explanations regarding contributions under civil law contracts and tax relief for young people show why personal conditions are important. Do not apply someone else's calculation to yourself without checking.
Ask to break down the rate into components
Convenient entry: base rate + confirmed surcharges + bonus under certain conditions. If the ad says "to", find out how much is available without a premium and what figures are required for the upper limit.
For example, payment for compliance may differ from hourly payment for training. You need to know when the training ends, how the result is calculated and what happens with a smaller amount of work. Ask for a separate example of the calculation of the first and regular month.
Calculate the balance under the same assumptions
Below is a conditional comparison, not Euworkly rates and not a tax calculation. Let's say both rates are already confirmed as netto for one person, 160 hours paid, no bonuses.
| Indicator | Option A | Option B |
|---|---|---|
| Netto per hour | 28 zł | 30 zł |
| In 160 hours | 4 480 zł | 4 800 zł |
| Accommodation | −500 zł | −900 zł |
| Transport | −100 zł | −200 zł |
| The balance for food and other expenses | 3 880 zł | 3 700 zł |
In this example, a higher rate results in a smaller balance. But if you do not need housing, the result will change: the table must be recalculated. Also compare the travel time, the nature of the work and the possibility of working according to the proposed schedule.
Check out the scenario with fewer hours
Do not multiply the maximum rate by the highest number of hours mentioned. Ask to explain what hours the contract provides and how the schedule is formed. Separately specify the payment of breaks, training, downtime and additional work - the rules depend on the conditions and type of contract.
For your own budget, calculate the same example for 120 hours: A — 3 360 − 500 − 100 = 2 760 zł; B — 3 600 − 900 − 200 = 2 500 zł. The constant housing charge has a stronger effect on a month with less employment. This scenario helps to estimate the money supply, but does not mean that the employer plans exactly 120 hours.
Check the first payment
Keep a record of the time worked and request a calculation: period, hours, rate, surcharges, taxes, contributions and other deductions. Compare it with the contract and transfer. If the amount does not match the expectation, first find out if the whole month is included and if the bonus is not paid later.
Conversation Question: “What is the base rate for my situation? What hours are paid? What can be withheld? When is the payout? Can you provide the calculation without the premium?” For young people there is a separate article about student rates; for all candidates - comparison of contracts.
Open the directory and select offers to compare. Through form Euworkly you can ask to clarify the basis of the rate and expenses of a specific vacancy, without replacing it with a personal tax calculation.
