Start with an address and location confirmation
Specify the settlement, address, date of availability and person responsible for check-in. Photos are helpful in evaluating a space, but ask if they show exactly what you want and when they were taken. A photo of another house or an advertising illustration does not confirm the conditions of the room.
If the exact seat is determined closer to arrival, find out when it will be announced and what will happen if there are no seats. Do not buy a ticket based only on the fact that the accommodation was mentioned in an old ad.
Make a complete list of payments
| Questions | What to record |
|---|---|
| Basic price | For a day or a month; per person or room |
| Half moon | How are the days of arrival and departure counted |
| Communal services | Included or paid extra |
| Pledge | Amount, recipient, conditions and term of return |
| Payment | Before moving in, with a separate payment or payment |
| Absence | Is there a fee if you go for several days |
| Completion of work | When you need to make room |
Don't count the security deposit as a monthly expense if it's refundable, but include it in the money you need to get started. Find out which document confirms the payment and who to contact with questions about the calculation.
Rate the room taking into account the changes
Ask about the number of people in the room, storage space, access to the kitchen, shower, washing machine and internet. If you will be working at night, discuss daytime quiet and other residents' schedules. It is important for the couple to confirm the shared room separately: the two available beds may be in different rooms.
Upon check-in, inspect the property and report any damage in an agreed upon manner. Save the description of received keys and conditions. If the actual housing differs from the promised one, immediately contact the person responsible for the settlement and ask for a specific solution.
Count housing together with transport
Conventional example: room A costs 500 zł per month, transportation - 200 zł. Room B costs 650 zł, organized transport included. All other things being equal, the total amount is 700 and 650 zł, respectively. These are not market prices, but a demonstration of how to compare.
The monetary difference does not tell about the travel time. Check the departure for all your changes, boarding location, waiting time and return option if you are delayed. If there is only a morning bus, a job with night shifts may require a different solution.
When should you compare your own housing?
If you are already renting a room, ask whether it is possible to work without a partner's accommodation and whether there is compensation for your own. Clarify the terms of additional payment in writing; it should not be considered automatic for every job.
Calculate the cost of moving, the possible overlapping of two payments and the distance to work. Cheaper housing does not always justify a change of city, especially if the recruitment is temporary. Compare the balance after expenses for by the netto/gross scheme, and not just a separate amount for the room.
A message that can be sent before the trip
"Please confirm the address, the place on the date of arrival, the number of people in the room, the full price, the deposit and the commute for my shifts. What are the exit rules if the job is finished?" Save the answers together with the terms of the vacancy.
